Earlier this month, We had the opportunity to visit beautiful Southern California and tour Haven Hills Recovery, San Diego Women’s Trauma Treatment facilities. To say that we were impressed, would be an understatement. This program, and the people who operate it, are serving their clients with dignity, respect and an overwhelming degree of competence.
Founded by James Huffman after he lost his wife and the mother of their 7 children to an eating disorder, Haven Hills Recovery has created one of the finest eating disorder treatment facilities in the country. We spoke with James, and with several of his staff – and the overwhelming impression that we got from each one was that of true authenticity.
Haven Hills is a trauma-focused facility, exclusively serving women presenting a variety of issues including eating disorders, substance abuse or dual diagnoses. Their ethically-grounded, professional continuum of care utilizes evidence-based practices, compassionate care and is designed to meet the real needs of the clients they serve.
Several levels of care are available through Haven Hills. They offer PHP treatment for those requiring 40+ hours of clinical support while addressing the stressors of easting disorders and co-occuring addiction related to underlying trauma.
Also provided is an excellent IOP for clients who are at a point in their recovery at which they are able to sustain and continue progress with 12-20 hours of therapeutic support.
And then we were able to tour the Sober Living non-traditional housing option, and may we just say: Haven Hills is getting it right! With a patient advocate house manager living on-site and additional support staff providing non-clinical support, the women who are enrolled in the Sober Living aspect of treatment are served with the highest level of care. Optimal recovery is within reach at Haven Hills.
